Top-up Service Ding Launches Afghanistan Mobile Credit Relief Fund

Sep.07 - This month Ding launched a top-up fund to send credit to those in need, especially those in Afghanistan and in Guinea. Out of the world's 5 billion mobile phones, 80 percent are prepaid. And a huge chunk of them have no credit. This means they cannot place calls, send messages or access data. Through the Ding app users can send mobile credit straight to other people's phones. This direct top-up system avoids the need to wire cash to the recipient, which could potentially expose them to a dangerous situation at the other end. Ding CEO Mark Roden spoke to Francine Lacqua on "Bloomberg Surveillance: Early Edition."
